Nato praises Qatar policy on regional peace, security

Qatar’s Ambassador to Belgium and the country’s Permanent Representative to Nato, Sheikh Ali bin Jassim al-Thani, participated in ‘Oberammergau Symposium’ organised by the alliance at the Nato School in Oberammergau, Germany.

During his address to the symposium, the ambassador spoke of the impact of partnerships on the changing security environment and the achievements of the Istanbul Co-operation Initiative.

He called for more political consultations and constructive co-operation between Nato and partner countries.

Nato’s Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs and Security Policy Terry Stamatopoulos expressed his thanks and appreciation for the role played by Qatar and its wise policy that aims to maintain security and peace in the region.

He pointed to the events hosted in the last, such as the Nato and Security in the Gulf Region Conference and Disarmament and Non-proliferation of Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) Conference.

The symposium was attended by Nato School Commandant, Captain Scott Butler and a large number of officials, ambassadors and diplomats from member states as well as countries participating in Nato’s partnership agreements.

The symposium discussed partnership with Nato and the extent of their development since the decisions issued by the alliance leaders at Wales Summit.

The participants discussed the outlook for the next Nato summit in Warsaw, Poland, in addition to the repercussions of the change that is taking place in the security environment and its effects on the partnerships between the Nato and partner countries.
