Dukhan beat Bisdak in PIBAQ Elite Cup

By Sports Reporter/Doha

A fired up Dukhan Ballers got past Familia Bisdak Pilatus 96-81 in the ongoing elimination rounds of the Elite Division in the 18th Men’s Basketball League of Pinoy Basketball of Qatar (PIBAQ) at the Al Gharafa Training Gym on Friday.
Former MVP Rodel Mallari was unstoppable with 40 points. His perfect 16 of 16 conversion at the free throw line and back-to-back baskets in the dying minutes in the third quarter made the difference when they started to pull away and never looked back.
Mallari’s team-mates CJ Casas and Kemuel Proceso inflicted more damage on their opponents as they contributed 14 and 12 points respectively.
Bisdak’s towering center Andrew Salud was impressive with 33 points, mostly inside the keyhole, but that eventually wasn’t enough.
In the other Elite game, underdog Hero-Jireh beat Junalvin Supreme Technologies 78-68. Hero-Jireh’s efforts to maintain a double-digit lead in the final quarter even as Junalvin stars Jason Tiongson and Michael Olino tried staging a comeback paid off in the end.
“We may be underdogs but we will fight in every game with so much passion and this caliber of play could lead us to the top of the tournament,” said Hero coach Nelson Delos Santos.
The wins were the first for Dukhan and Hero, while Bisdak slid down to two successive losses and Junalvin to their first.
HLG-Leighton top the standings with two wins while One Family-Sine Wave are in second with a win and a loss.
In the Aspirants division, 3 Stars & A Sun routed EMS 63-52 for their third successive win in their eight-team league while SJ Soba conquered Al Dar Exchange 66-58 for their first win after two losses.
Bolleros pulled a surprise against a strong AAB Toyota team to capture their second win 64-49 in the second game. Both teams now have 2 wins and a loss and share the second spot in the standings.
In the much-anticipated Under-18 division, Young JUNALVIN-ICMS survived a thrilling match against McDonald’s-Ooredoo 67-60.
Joshua Genonangan came up with timely baskets to maintain a safe lead in the dying minutes. He was instrumental in sealing the win with his fancy assist to a team-mate near the keyhole with 35 seconds to go.
