The unstable conditions in the Middle East require serious work to rectify the situation, eliminate the causes of tension and imbalance in the implementation of international commitments in the field of non-proliferation and nuclear disarmament, Ali Khalfan al-Mansouri, Qatar’s ambassador to Austria and permanent envoy to international organisations in Vienna, said at the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) 59th general conference.
Al-Mansouri said there should be more effort to back IAEA with human and financial resources that guarantee responding to the growing demand from countries for its services to facilitate the safe and sustainable use of nuclear energy in all fields.
The Qatari ambassador said Doha has adopted peaceful applications of nuclear energy as a firm choice in its future plans for sustainable development within Qatar National Vision 2030 and beyond.
Qatar prepared ambitious programmes in this regard, including the equipment of technical, scientific, administrative and organisational infrastructure and putting in place legislative and regulative frameworks, he said.
Al-Mansouri said Qatar views co-operation with IAEA as a main element in developing national capacities and training national human resources as well as benefiting from the peaceful applications of nuclear energy in the different development fields such as industry, health, environment, and water resources.
