The College of the North Atlantic-Qatar (CNA-Q) has welcomed 2,100 students this year and nearly 65% of them are Qataris.
Enrollment in the Technician Preparatory Programme (TPP), a specialised programme training students in technician disciplines specific to the energy sector, increased by 50% over last year. Ninety-six percent of TPP students are Qatari nationals, and all the students are sponsored by local companies or industry partners.
“I’m glad I joined CNA-Q and I am confident that my career will start from here,” said first-year TPP student Ali Mohammed al-Marri. “I look forward to studying here and learning everything I can to prepare myself for the future.”
This year’s enrollment numbers show the School of Business Studies is the largest faculty (704), followed by engineering technology (503), health sciences (256), and information technology (265).
CNA-Q’s School of Language Studies and Academics has more than tripled over last year. The school teaches foundation courses, with a strong focus on English language skills, to support Qatari students in completing their programme of choice.
“These trends show that students are seeking an education that will prepare them to succeed in Qatar’s knowledge and technology-based economy,” said Dr Ken MacLeod, CNA-Q president. “Starting a new academic year is always exciting, as fresh faces and personalities bring energy to campus. We welcome new and returning students to campus – inviting them to become involved, and find their place in the college community.”
Students officially started the academic year September 6 during Mar7aba celebrations. The largest student activity was the grand opening of Falcon’s Nest – the campus’ first interdisciplinary, multi-purpose students’ lounge. A newly expanded bookstore was also opened, and students enjoyed club-related events and a fashion show.
