The head of the Qatari National Committee for the Reconstruction of the Gaza Strip, ambassador Mohamed al-Emadi, met in Gaza City yesterday with UN Middle East peace envoy Nickolay Mladenov, who is currently visiting the Gaza Strip.
Al-Emadi briefed the UN envoy on progress of Qatari projects carried out in the Gaza Strip and entry of all construction materials related to these projects.
After an inspection tour accompanied by al-Emadi, Mladenov commended the Qatari projects implementation, stressing commitment of the UN to facilitate entry of all construction materials of Qatari projects and solve any problem that may face such projects through contacts with the Israeli authorities. They inspected a number of Qatari projects in Gaza, included Hamad Hospital for Rehabilitation and Prosthetic Limbs in Gaza, Hamad Housing Complex in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip and Salah al-Din Street, which its third phase was inaugurated yesterday.
In a press conference held at the UNSCO, Office of the UN Special Co-ordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Mladenov noted that Gaza reconstruction and improvement of the economic situation would enable the Palestinian unity government to perform its responsibilities in the Gaza Strip and to take control of all crossings.
