Ooredoo and Wataniya Mobile, a member of Ooredoo Group, have announced that they will be the lead sponsors of Palestine’s two top divisions, the Premier League and the Gaza Strip League, in partnership with the Palestine Football Association (PFA).
The agreement was announced at a press conference held in Ramallah recently, which was attended by PFA chairman Major General Jibreel Rjoub and Wataniya Mobile CEO Dr Durgham Maree.
Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohamed bin Saud al-Thani, chairman of Ooredoo Group, said: “We believe that Ooredoo can bring incredible value to football in Palestine, through our support for both leagues, and also through our understanding of how mobile technology can enhance the experience for fans. This initiative fits well with our track record of being one of the region’s most engaged supporters of sport.”
On his part, Major General Rjoub said: “We are very grateful to Ooredoo, and to the chairman of Ooredoo Sheikh Abdulla bin Mohamed bin Saud al-Thani in particular, for their support of this new sponsorship agreement. We believe it will provide the resources and support necessary to take football in Palestine to the next level, and enrich the experience for fans and players.”
Ooredoo is “dedicated to creating new opportunities for young people and supporting sports across its footprint”, the statement notes. The company partners with a host of high-profile teams, including French football club Paris Saint-Germain, and is the official partner of the Myanmar Football Federation and The Football Association of Maldives.
