Minister meets ambassadors of France, Malaysia

Minister of Transport HE Jassim bin Seif Ahmed al-Sulaiti had meetings  with ambassadors of France Eric Chevalier (left) and ambassador of Malaysia Ahmed Jazri Mohamed Johar at his office yesterday. At the meetings, the minister and ambassadors explored ways to strengthen bilateral relations between their countries,  in the area of transportation.

Minister visits Mina, Arafat
HE Dr Ghaith bin Mubarak al-Kuwari, Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs and Head of Qatari Haj Mission, yesterday inspected places allocated to pilgrims from the country in the holy sites of Mina and Arafat and paid a visit to a number of Haj contractors’ venues.
The Minister was briefed on the preparations in the holy sites of Mina and Arafat and learned about the latest arrangements to receive the pilgrims of Qatar.


Ties reviewed
Russian Minister of Sport Vitaly Mutko and Russia-2018 Organising Committee General Director Alexei Sorokin have met Qatar’s Ambassador Saud Abdullah al-Mahmoud.
During the meeting they discussed bilateral relations and ways of enhancing them as well as co-operation in the field of sports, especially the preparation for the FIFA World Cups 2018 in Russia and 2022 in Qatar.

HBKU institute seeks submissions for conference
Hamad Bin Khalifa University’s Translation and Interpreting Institute has called for paper submissions for its translation conference, which will be held next year at the Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC) on March 28-29.
This annual event invites translation and interpreting academics, practitioners and members of the community to examine topics on the theme, ‘Politics of Translation: Representations and Power’ for the 2016 conference.
The conference seeks to facilitate a conversation about the extent to which translational mechanisms are used to represent power and transform image within politics.
HBKU’s TII is calling for papers examining political translation. Thematic areas include interpreting in conflict zones, citizen media, brokering and mediating, the ethics of translation, the sound and image of power, manipulation and censorship, gender politics, translating religions and translating democracy.
Abstracts of 250 to 300 words may be submitted in either Arabic or English, the two languages of the conference, and should include the applicant’s institutional affiliation.
The deadline for sending the abstracts is October 22, 2015, with the applicants being notified by November 22, the university said.
