Sri Lankan investigators yesterday questioned former president Mahinda Rajapakse over losses incurred by state institutions during the presidential elections in January.
Rajapakse was questioned by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry at his residence in the capital Colombo, according to Xinhua.
Investigators are probing a complaint alleging that a state media institution had incurred losses amounting to $1.4mn due to broadcasting the former president’s adverts without any payment during the election race earlier this year.
The former president, his family and other senior officials from the previous government are all under probe in the island nation for corruption and fraud alleged to have taken place during their decade-long tenure in office.
