Abandoned vehicles, pest control keep municipalities on their toes

Pest control being undertaken in the northern areas.

A total of 165 abandoned vehicles have been removed from different places in Umm Slal Municipality, according to the second quarterly report (April-June) of the municipality’s Department of Services Affairs.  Of these, 109 vehicles were removed by their owners and 56 by the municipality.
During this period, 6,670 trees were planted and 500sq m of green areas were laid along public roads within the municipality. Some 19,800 seedlings of seasonal flowers were also planted.
The general cleanliness project, in co-ordination with the municipality, removed 9,804 tonnes of household waste, 32,410 tonnes of miscellaneous litter, 6,987 tyres and 477 carcasses of animals, according to the report.
A total of 63 tree-pruning applications by citizens were executed through the ministry’s website, three of which were done through the above-mentioned section. The volume of irrigation water amounted to 15,350,000 gallons, of which 2,150,000 gallons came from the Al Sunay plant and 13.2mn gallons from the water treatment plant. Some 3,412 periodic operations for insect control were carried out in public places in addition to 1,025 rodent control operations. Besides, 3,240 applications submitted by people for pest control and 136 applications for rodent control were also executed.
Meanwhile, the general cleaning section in the Department of Services Affairs, Al Daayen Municipality, removed 12 abandoned vehicles and equipment recently.
It also carried out a large number of insect and rodent control operations at different places, including houses and palaces (388 operations), government buildings and mosques (34), schools (five), residential areas, public roads and power plants (451), public parks, sports clubs and farms (17) and containers and garbage trucks (156).
Besides, over 19.1mn gallons of wastewater was discharged through 4,851 hauling trips, according to a statement.
