More than 13,000 attend MoI events on first day of Eid

More than 13,000 people attended the cultural programmes organised by the Ministry of Interior at different venues on Thursday, the first day of Eid al-Adha.

The events were held at the MES Indian School, Sri Lankan School and Barwa Workers Sports Complex in Al Khor Industrial Area.

The programmes at Al Khor Industrial Area, which attracted more than 7,000 people, included semi-classical dance, Bhangra, folk dance and fusion performance.

There was also a traffic and security awareness film show during the event.

Cultural shows in Hindi, Tamil, Malayalam and English entertained the huge crowd from Al Khor, Ras Laffan and the surrounding areas.

The Eid celebrations for Indian community at MES Indian School attracted a large number expatriate community members, including single workers and families.

A crowd of more than 4,000 attended the programme that started at 5pm.

There were several performances, including music and dance among others. Although most of the audience were Indians, expatriates from Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and some Arab countries also attended the programme.

More than 2,000 Sri Lankan community members attended the programme at the Sri Lankan school. Cultural events like light music, Baila songs and songs by Gayan, Evens and Priyantha rejoiced the audience.

The events included traditional folk dances and speeches by school children. Songs in Sinhala, Tamil and English were presented by popular Sri Lankan singers.

MoI's Public Relations Department director Brig. Abdulla Khalifa al-Muftah, Community Policing Department director Col. Ahmed Zayed al-Muhannadi, and assistant director Col Sultan Mohamed al-Kaabi addressed the audience on the first day of the programmes.

There were also raffle draws during the programme and the winners were presented with gifts.

MoI is hosting community events on Saturday also.
