Romelu Lukaku’s brace led a second-half comeback that gave Everton a 3-2 win Monday over West Bromwich Albion.
Arouna Kone scored as Everton erased a 2-0 second-half deficit to move up to fifth in the Premier League.
The Toffees remain unbeaten in four away league games.
“Incredible character to come back and get a win. We never gave up,” Everton manager Roberto Martinez told Sky Sports.
“The mountain we had to climb, it would have been easy to lose focus, but we got three goals against the best defensive structure in the Premier League. Every three points is huge, but it feels extra good.”
Saido Berahino and Craig Dawson scored for West Brom, who entered the game having conceded a league-low four goals.
“Really, really disappointing because before we scored the second goal we had some good chances,” said West Brom manager Tony Pulis, whose club is winless at home. “We switched off, and Everton will punish you.”
A dull first half came to life in the 40th minute as Berahino took advantage of a defensive error to open the scoring.
Everton’s Gareth Barry gave the ball away to James Morrison who threaded a pass into the area, which Berahino sent past the onrushing Tim Howard.
West Brom looked to take total control after Dawson was left alone to head home Chris Brunt’s corner in the 53rd minute.
Everton started its comeback just 27 seconds after the restart as former West Brom striker Lukaku headed in a cross from Gerard Deulofeu.
“At 2-0 down there’s always a way back. It was disastrous for us, but we got back into it straight away,” Everton’s Phil Jagielka said.
The Toffees drew level when Lukaku slid a pass into the area for Kone, who fired a shot past Boz Myhill.
Lukaku then completed the comeback with six minutes remaining as he got onto another cross from Deulofeu and scored from close range.
“The first half was not too good, and at half-time the manager woke us up,” Lukaku said.
