The penultimate round of the 2015 FIM Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) will take place this weekend at the Losail International Circuit (LIC).
The race is expected to be a thriller as the teams and riders prepare to deliver their best results yet in their bid to improve their positions before the season finale in Thailand this November.
2015 edition marks the 20th anniversary of the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship. Begun in 1996, the championship has been, and still is, the only Asia-wide motorcycle championship. For its 20th edition, the Asian series feature a six-round calendar hosted in five Asian countries: Malaysia, Indonesia, Japan, Thailand and Qatar. The number of race categories, have also increased to five classes – two developmental classes, the Honda’s Asia Dream Cup and the Suzuki Asian Challenge, and the three open-make classes comprising of the Underbone 130cc, the new Asia Production 250cc and the SuperSports 600cc.
In the Qatar Round, there will be only four race categories competing as the Suzuki Asian Challenge will not race at the Losail track.
QMMF Racing Team’s Essa al-Mutawa will take part in the SuperSport 600cc as a wild card entrant. The Qatari rider, who is taking part in the Qatar SuperBike Championship, is very excited to take part in this championship and hope to have a good outing. The second wild card has been given to Abdulaziz Baker of the Saudi Falcons team.
The young Qatari rider Abdulla Naief al-Qubaisi, who is taking part in the Qatar Supersport Championship, will also ride for the Honda Asia Dream Cup as a wild card entrant.
QMMF President and LIC General Manager Nasser Khalifa al-Attiyah expressed his happiness to host another round of the championship.
“It is a great pleasure to host another round of Asia Road Racing Championship at Losail International Circuit. This is one of the most important motorcycle championships and we are very proud that Two Wheels Motor Racing Sdn Bhd continues to give us their confidence to be part of this event and we wish them another 20 years more of success,” he said.
The practice sessions for all the four categories will be held on October 1 and the first races will be held on Friday.
The second races will take place on Saturday starting at 19:00 with the Asia Dram Cup and closing the event with the SuperSport 600cc race at 22:30.
