Ajay Sharma, a career diplomat, has been appointed as the new British ambassador to Qatar, according to information available on the gov.uk website.
He will replace Nicholas Hopton, who will be transferred to another diplomatic service posting, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office said in a posting on its website.
Sharma, who will take up his new appointment in November, joined the UK Foreign & Commonwealth Office in 1995. He has been posted in several countries in various capacities over the years. These include Turkey, Russia, France and Iran, where he is currently the chargé d’affaires.
