Frankie Dettori rode Golden Horn to victory in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp on Sunday, dashing the hopes for a record third win for French great Treve.
Winning Europe's most prestigious horse race for a fourth time, 44-year-old Dettori hit the front early going down the back straight and never looked like being caught by the chasing pack.
The win means a superb triple this year for Dettori and Golden Horn, having already taken the Epsom Derby and the Irish Derby.
Ridden by Thierry Jarvet, Treve, winner of the race in the last two years, had to settle for fourth place. Flintshir took second place with New Bay in third.
"I really believed in the horse. I was going that fast it was impossible for the others to pass me. It was a great performance," said Dettori
"His record is unbelievable. He is probably the best horse I have ever ridden."
Golden Horn's win was also a huge triumph for English trainer John Gosden, winning the Arc for the first time at the age of 64.
