Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF) president Nasser Khalifa al-Attiyah has invited all the international motorsport stakeholders to support women in various aspects in addition to administration.
QMMF is doing serious technical and administrative preparations to host a training seminar for women in rallying where 18 participants will get driving and co-driving training.
Al-Attiyah, who is also the FIA vice president and FIM deputy president, said, “We (QMMF) are pleased that Qatar will form a solid base that supports participation of women in motorsport. I personally believe that women have put their skills to a very good use whenever they have been given a chance to do so. Creativity only needs support, and FIA and FIM rules and regulations provide that support. Today we find a woman walking side-by-side with a man in all fields of life, and history has shown that a woman has been a pioneer in many fields.
“Once more, I assert that QMMF doors are open for any women who have the talent and the creativity, and are interested in motorsports.”
He added: “I recommend to all the motorsport clubs and federations to take serious steps in order to promote these concepts for expansion. All the clubs and federations have to adopt larger roles in supporting the social, cultural, volunteer and environmental works.
Al-Attiyah thanked president of FIA’s Women in Motorsport Commission Michele Mouton for her efforts. “She has been successful, is considered a pioneer and is one of the main supporters of women in motorsport,” he said.
FIA has chosen 18 women (drivers and co-drivers) from 85 candidates for this course, which is scheduled to begin in November 2015.
The training course will be hosted by QMMF over 5 days. The Middle East and North Africa region will be represented by Yasmeen Magdy of Jordan and Yara Shalabi of Egypt.
