The domestic consumption, which included mainly residential customers, accounted for 57% of the sectoral electricity consumption in Qatar in 2014, according to a Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) report.
This came to 22,215,842 MWh, and the bulk industrial consumption during the year was 30% (11,568,215 MWh). The transmission losses accounted for approximately 6% (2,340, 897 MWh) of the consumption.
The auxiliary consumption's share was 7% or 2,567,926 MWh. The report said small industries were not calculated in the category of the bulk industrial sector consumption .
The corporation pointed out that the maximum power load demand in the entire year for a single day was on September 7, 2014, when the figure was 6,740 mw. The lowest power load demand was on February 12, when it was only 2,154 MW on February 12.
The maximum demand in the previous years were 5,090 MW (2010), 5,375 MW (2011), 6,255 MW (2012) and 6,000 MW (2013).
The corporation has also reported that the maximum domestic demand in 2014 was 5,180 MW. In the previous years, the figures were 4,015 MW (2010), 4,250 MW (2011), 4,630 MW (2012) and 4,795 MW (2013).
The report also said there was a 12.3% increase in peak demand between 2013 and 2014, while the growth in consumption during the period was 12.1%.
The domestic consumption grew by 10.4% during the period while industrial consumption recorded a 16.3% growth.
It was also found that the peak demand growth in the industrial sector was close to 25.1%.
