One year ahead to UCI Road World event

By Sorts Reporter/Doha

One year from today marks the start of UCI Road World Championships in Doha. The  October 9-16 2016 event makes Qatar the first Middle East country to stage it and the second Asian country after Japan in 1990.
The Organising committee of Doha 2016 has been working closely with UCI to make sure that next year’s event continues in the same successful vein. Thanks to the support of the government and national partners and as a part of the national agenda of the country’s leaders where sport occupies a privileged position, the organisers have been able to choose the best venues and roads for racing tracks. And for the first time the broadcasting will be through a very outstanding parkour with the surroundings of the Arabian Gulf, Katara Cultural Village and The Pearl.
Qatar has already made significant progress in using sport as a means of communication and of strengthening ties between different nations by hosting multiple regional and international sports events in recent years. This led the sport infrastructure to being comprehensively and increasingly developed, allowing Qatar to become an international sports hub. It is on track to make Doha 2016 an outstanding success, as it will host thousands of racers and participants from national federations, delegations, technicians and journalists in addition to millions of fans and spectators from all over the world.
Doha 2016 Championships will be a gathering platform where athletes and visitors will be able to explore the diversity of culture, enjoy the well-known Arabian hospitality, while celebrating the spirit of Cycling sport during competitions and Mass Event ‘The Race Starts Here’, where amateur and leisure cyclists from all over the world are invited to ride on the circuit of the UCI Road World Championships Doha 2016 on Saturday, October 15th 2016.
On a completely closed and safe course, cyclists and families will enjoy this unique opportunity to try the 19 kilometres’ Road Circuit Course, used during the same week by the best riders of the World. Amani al-Dosari – Doha 2016 Managing Director announced that “With exactly one year ahead of the start of the Championships, the excitement is building as we will be the first country in the Middle East to host UCI Road World Championships in the heart of Doha city. We are confident that RWC 2016 will be a unique world-class event with a generous Arabian touch that should not be missed!”
