Expat sales executive gets one year jail for theft

Doha

A Doha criminal court has sentenced an Indian man to one year in jail and ordered subsequent deportation for stealing electronic appliances from his employer, local Arabic daily Arrayah reported Friday.
The convict used to work as a sales executive at a commercial company. As part of his job, he used to sell some DVD players to select customers at half the original price, registering such units as old and returned by customers for repair.
An official at the company saw him in a recording of surveillance camera taking a new apparatus from its box and putting it into an old plastic bag and giving it to a customer. Subsequently, the official reviewed all the previous recordings from the camera and discovered more of such practice by the same executive.
He reported the matter to the police, and the convict admitted to crime at the investigations. He has transferred a sum of QR62,000 outside the country he made from his illegal practices, the daily added.
