HE the Minister of Culture, Arts and Heritage, Dr Hamad bin Abdul Aziz al-Kuwari, stressed Qatar’s firm conviction of the importance of education as a powerful tool for addressing global challenges.
This came during a speech by the Minister of Culture at the invitation of Education Above All Foundation (EAA) at the headquarters of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) on the occasion of the opening of an art exhibition of images of the global initiative “Educate A Child” and the launch of a book Challenges & Reality a new collection of pictures by phtojournalist Maher Attar, in the presence of prominent figures from around the world involved in the development of education and representatives of all member-states of Unesco.
Dr al-Kuwari highlighted Qatar’s concern and conviction on education through the global initiative “Educate A Child” launched by HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser in 2012, which aims to significantly reduce the numbers of out of school children (OOSC).
“Educate A Child” included the signing of partnership agreements to gain access to 6mn children out of school, Dr al-Kuwari said, adding that the programme is active in 38 countries and is committed to provide educational programmes for more than 10mn by the end of the school year 2015/2016.
Thanks to these initiatives, children in isolated and remote areas and living in fragile or conflict-affected countries, would receive quality education, added Dr al-Kuwari.
The Minister of Culture reviewed the positive results achieved by “Educate A Child”, praising HH Sheikha Moza bint Nasser’s efforts which yielded positive results that exceeded expectations for pupils over the past three years.
