The country’s two main power generation facilities together accounted for 40% of the entire electricity production in Qatar, according to a report released by the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), based on the figures of 2014.
As per the report, Ras Girtas Power Company (RGPC-installed capacity 2730 MW), and Mesaieed Power Company Limited (MPCL, 2001 MW) together supplied 40% of the electricity generated in the country.
While the RGPC  produced a total of 8,447,407 MWh (22%),  MPCL’s total output was 6,828,264 MWh, it said.
The total power generated in the entire year (2014) exceeded 38.69mn MWh, it said while adding that the four facilities at Ras Abu Fontas (RAF) together accounted for 32% of the total production. Of the four, RAF B alone produced 12% (4,615,212) of the country’s requirements.
The two major facilities on the country’s northern side other than RGPC contributed one-fourth of the country’s total electricity production. Ras Laffan Power Company (RLPC, Installed capacity 756MW and Ras Laffan B (1,025MW) supplied  4,437,229 MWh and 5,237,126 MWh respectively.
Out of the country’s total installed capacity of 8791 MW, the combined share of the power stations in Ras Abu Fontas, which are managed by Qatar Electricity and Water Company, was 2,279 MW, while the four facilities in Ras Laffan accounted for 4511 MW.
Another finding in the report was about the power generation in the three peak consumption months of July, August and September. The combined generation of the three-month period came almost close to 13mn MWhs, added the report which also said the country’s largest power generation facility at Ras Girtas alone accounted for more than 3.13mn MWh of the total production during the period.
