Green building progress on show at Expo Milano

Qatar Green Building Council (QGBC), a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, showcased the achievements of Qatar’s sustainability and green building sector at Expo Milano 2015.
Providing a unique platform for the exchange of creative ideas, Expo Milano was attended by representatives from over 140 countries to exhibit the best of their technologies offering sustainable solutions to an array of social and environmental issues.
In order to help visitors, especially families and children, gain a virtual experience of sustainable living and green buildings in Qatar, an innovative sustainability edutainment tool developed by QGBC’s research team was showcased at the exhibition.  
Meshal al-Shamari, QGBC director, said: “Expo Milano 2015 provided us with the opportunity to showcase the astounding progress Qatar has made on various fronts in recent years, especially in offering innovative solutions to issues related to green buildings and environmental sustainability.”
Al-Shamari added: “Among the array of developments in Qatar’s green building sector, our team highlighted the significant contributions Qatar Foundation, our founding and professional members, and the volunteers have made over the years to help raise awareness about an array of sustainability issues.”
QGBC’s team attending the Expo conducted an informative presentation on Qatar’s efforts to further enhance the state of sustainability and green buildings in the country.
Hamoda Youssef, research specialist at QGBC, said: “Qatar has gained outstanding momentum in keeping abreast of worldwide green building trends. In addition to adding new buildings to the country’s existing green buildings portfolio, vast efforts are geared towards increasing technical education and spreading awareness about the importance of environmental sustainability. The Expo Milano 2015 was a chance for us to inform the world about the creativity and innovation being utilised in Qatar.”
QGBC is a non-profit, membership-driven organisation dedicated to advocating green building solutions, leading industry research, and promoting sustainable practices in the community.
