HE Qatar’s Attorney General Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri with other delegates to the 9th meeting of public prosecutors, attorneys-general and heads of public investigation bodies in the GCC countries, in Doha yesterday.

Public prosecutors, attorneys-general and heads of public investigation bodies in the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) countries held their 9th meeting under the chairmanship of HE Qatar’s Attorney General Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri in Doha yesterday.
HE Dr al-Marri said the meeting had agreed to implement the decision of the GCC leaders on exchanging prosecutors among the GCC countries, making it possible for a Gulf prosecutor to serve in any of the member-states.
He said that there is a specific mechanism for the work of Gulf prosecutors in any GCC country. He also considered the move to be a major achievement, that would not have been possible without the GCC leaders’ approval of the recommendation of heads of investigation and prosecution bodies in the member-states.
HE Dr Ali bin Fetais al-Marri announced that under the directives of HH the Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani, the Award for Excellence for members of the GCC public prosecutions and investigation bodies will be named after former Kuwaiti attorney general Hamid al-Othman. It will be known as “The Hamid al-Othman Award for Excellence for members of the GCC public prosecutions and investigation bodies”.
“The Emir’s directive in this regard is a gracious gesture and a great honour that confirms His Highness’s special recognition of the judiciary represented in the attorneys-general”, he said.
He added that the former Kuwaiti attorney general Hamid al-Othman had made a great impact in field of legal work in the Gulf, adding that the Emir’s gesture is not only a recognition for late Hamid al-Othman and his family, but also for all the workers in the legal field in the GCC states.
GCC Secretary-General Abdullatif al-Zayani hailed HH the Emir’s directives on naming the award after the former Kuwaiti attorney general, explaining that the award was approved by the GCC Ministerial Council on the basis of the recommendation of the public prosecutors, attorneys-general and heads of public investigation bodies in the GCC countries.
It aims at recognising the outstanding sons of the GCC countries and motivate their colleagues to exert more efforts.
