The nine independent power and water facilities in Qatar together produce 1.45mn cu m of potable water a day.
A news item published as part of the Statistical report of the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), said that the four facilities in the northern industrial city of Ras Laffan generate 740,909 cu m of potable water a day while the five facilities at  Ras Abu Fontas produce 736,364 cu m daily. The figures were given at the end of 2014.
The two stations that generate maximum quantities of potable water are Q-Power’s Ras Laffan B station (272,727 cu m/day) and Ras Girtas Power Company’s Ras Laffan C Station (286,364 cu m/day).
The other two stations that generate over 200,000 cubic metres of water/day  are  Ras Abu Fontas A (250,000 cu m/day) and Ras Abu Fontas A 1 (20,4545 cu m/day).
The country’s total installed capacity for desalinating water is 325mn gallons a day (325MIGD).
Ras Girtas Power Company’s Ras Laffan C (63 MIGD) and Ras Laffan B (60 MIGD) are the two bigger facilities.
Desalination plants were introduced in the country for the first time in 1953, with the first plant having a capacity to generate 150,000 imperial gallons a day (680 cu m).
The monthly average water production in 2014 was 41.26mn cu m, the highest being in July at 45.72mn cu m and the lowest in February at 32.56mn cu m.
The report also said the total water production reached 495mn cu m in 2014, which showed an overall increase of 6.5% over the 2013  figures.
It is also informed that the country has 292 wells, of which 274 are usable. They are located in such areas as Al Rushaidah, Adh Dhibiyah, Al Judiyah, Al Otoriyah, Abu Tailah, Old Jemiliyah, Abu Samra RO Plant, and Army’s North Camp.
The combined average output from these wells these days were 1082 cubic metres a day as the wells in all locations other than Abu Samra and Army North Camp were kept as standby for different reasons.
