Ezdan Real Estate Company, a Ezdan Holding Group subsidiary, has said it has completed the installation of 120,000 water saving devices in 7,000 of its residential units.
The project aims to reduce daily per capita water consumption by 40-60% as part of the implementation of a comprehensive plan to make Ezdan Holding Group properties water-saving entities, according to a statement from the company.
This objective is in line with the ongoing National Programme for Conservation and Energy Efficiency - Tarsheed - of Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa). The group signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Kahramaa last year in support of the campaign.
The group noted that through the programme, Ezdan Real Estate has made “great progress in its plan, scheduled for completion by mid-2016, to convert Ezdan compounds into energy-efficient units”.
The implementation includes a multitude of its housing units in addition to villas. These water-saving units are spread over 11 residential villages.
Ezdan Holding Group CEO Ali al-Obaidli said the progress achieved so far is the result of the group’s efforts to support vital environmental and developmental initiatives benefiting Qatar. He added that the efforts provide necessary backing to initiatives that will create an environmentally aware society through the construction of resource-efficient infrastructure that help reduce pollution and keep Qatar clean and safe.
Al-Obaidli said the MoU signed last year fell within the framework of its permanent efforts to contribute to community development.
Ezdan Real Estate is working to implement the resource rationalisation programme through its maintenance and customer care department teams. These comprise a number of experts and professionals who are working to a planned schedule to implement the programme in the company’s villages and compounds by the beginning of 2016.
The MoU was signed in March 2014 by Sheikh Dr Khalid bin Thani bin Abdullah al-Thani, chairman of Ezdan Holding Group, and Essa bin Hilal al-Kuwari, president of Kahramaa, in support of the plans and initiatives of the Tarsheed campaign and efforts to reduce the daily per capita consumption of water and cut its wastage.
Ezdan Holding Group has also participated in several other community development programmes.
It has celebrated International Earth Day and launched an initiative, through Ezdan Mall Company, one of its subsidiaries, to plant 22mn trees by 2022.
Ezdan Mall has won a Tarsheed award for the best commercial building using clean energy and maintaining rational consumption in the country.
