Companies in Qatar could radically reshape technology costs and access the latest innovations quickly and easily by adopting “infrastructure as a service,” according to experts speaking at an event at the Ooredoo Data Centre this week.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) is a category of cloud computing that provides virtualised computing resources over the Internet. Companies access a full range of hardware, servers, storage and other infrastructure components via the cloud, and benefit from a high level of scalability. When workloads change, companies can adjust the level of resources required on-demand, providing an important business advantage.
The Ooredoo business event was dedicated to its Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) solution provided in cooperation with Microsoft. In total, some 25 leading Qatari businesses took part from across a wide range of industries, and — while having a full introduction to the service — also received a month’s free trial.

The IaaS solution is based on Microsoft Azure Pack, delivering an open and flexible cloud platform, helping enterprises transform their current infrastructure to deliver agility and cost effectiveness.
Ooredoo’s solution enables customers to launch cloud-based applications and start operating immediately, using a full line of powerful cloud servers. These virtual servers can be quickly provisioned and initiated compared to traditional on-premises hardware purchases.
With flexibility, security and scalability, Ooredoo IaaS servers are designed to handle all requirements from websites to databases and critical applications, running on a choice of operating systems such as Microsoft or Linux. Customers can also leverage from the Virtual Private Network (VPN) feature to extend IaaS to their on-premises network.
