Top honour for QU College of Arts and Sciences professor

Professor Hala Sultan al-Easa, Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences (QU-CAS)’s head of Chemistry and Earth Sciences Department, has been listed among the “175 faces of chemistry” by the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) in recognition of her achievements in the field of chemistry.
Professor al-Easa was recognised for being a role model and an ambassador for the future generation of scientists, and for her successful contribution to building the skills, knowledge and experience of young chemists to achieve success in their professional endeavours.
Her additional contributions were as president of Qatar Chemical Society and as member and the first Arab to chair the Chemical Review Committee in the United Nations Environmental Programme through her participation in establishing international protocols on the environment and agriculture aimed at protecting humans.
Commenting on the award, Professor al-Easa said: “I am very pleased to have received this recognition award, which will encourage other scientists, especially my students, to be Qatar’s next scientists.”
CAS dean Dr Eiman Mustafawi said, “Congratulations to Dr al-Easa on this much-deserved recognition. It is indicative of the quality of our faculty, which has positioned them as role models for their peers and their students, and as well-regarded contributors to the national development strategies.”
The RSC’s “175 faces of chemistry” website was launched in celebration of its 175th anniversary, which will be commemorated in February 2016.
