An agreement signed recently between Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences (QU-CAS) and German firm Global EnerTec AG will facilitate joint research activities between the two institutions in the field of waste management and recycling.
The agreement was signed by CAS dean Dr Eiman Mustafawi and Global EnerTec AG CEO Elena Weibert in the presence of CAS associate deans Dr Hassan Abdulaziz (academic affairs) and Dr Khalifa Hazaa (outreach and engagement), CAS Department of Biological and Environmental Sciences head Dr Fatima al-Naemi, Global EnerTec AG production manager Juergen Fechner as well as QU faculty and staff.
The terms of the agreement include collaboration for educational, research and training opportunities that will benefit CAS faculty and students as well as scientists from Global EnerTec. They also include co-operation to promote research on flue gas treatment, recycling of waste from petrol industry and waste water treatment.
Both institutions will also organise joint training, conferences and workshops in many areas related to waste management and recycling.
Commenting on the agreement, Dr Mustafawi said: “CAS is pleased to partner with Global EnerTec, which will serve to advance our students’ skills and knowledge in the field of waste management and recycling. Through the expertise of Global EnerTec scientists, our students will benefit from sound opportunities to develop research ideas that are aligned with national initiatives on managing, reducing and re-purposing waste as part of the country’s stated goals on environment conservation and sustainable development.”
Weibert added: “It is a great honour to sign this agreement with such a prestigious university. This MoU builds on the past success of a previous MoU signed between QU and laboratories of environmental analysis in 2013. I hope that signing this MoU will be the beginning of a fruitful and long co-operation with Qatar University.”
