38 US universities take part in Qatar college fair

HE Dr Mohamed Abdul Wahed Ali al-Hammadi, Minister of Education and Higher Education and Secretary-General of the Supreme Education Council, with officials and dignitaries at the fair.

Thirty-eight American universities are participating in the three-day Qatar International College Fair, which is being held at Qatar National Convention Centre until tomorrow.
Qatar is already home to six renowned US institutions: Georgetown University, Virginia Commonwealth University, Texas A&M, Carnegie Mellon University, Cornell University and Northwestern University. In addition to these universities, 32 others are present at the event, the US embassy said in a statement yesterday.
The embassy works to provide students in Qatar with access to information about hundreds of colleges and universities in the US through a programme called EducationUSA.
EducationUSA helps students find “accurate, comprehensive and current information” about how to apply to accredited US colleges and universities. This includes information on application procedures, standardised test requirements, student visas, financial aid and the full range of accredited US higher education institutions.
Advisers and staff work with US higher education professionals to promote international student enrolment and help promote study abroad opportunities for US citizens.
“Last year, the number of Qataris studying in the US increased by 20%, from the previous year, to approximately 1,200 students. Qataris currently study in 39 American states. American universities, colleges and schools are eager to welcome even more Qatari students to study on their campuses,” the statement noted. “The US embassy in Doha can provide assistance in the American university selection and application process, as well as with visas and travel.”
For additional information, one can visit the website, http://qatar.usembassy.gov/education/resources-for-study-in-usa.html, or contact the embassy’s EducationUSA adviser, Nahid Lawson, at 44966749 or LawsonN@state.gov for details about US colleges and universities.
