QU, Qatari Diar JV ink pact to set up chair at CENG

Qatar University (QU) and QDSBG Group signed an agreement yesterday to establish a professorial chair in Civil Infrastructure at QU College of Engineering (CENG).
QU president Dr Hassan al-Derham and QDSBG Group chairman Khalid al-Sayed signed the agreement.
The chair will benefit students of CENG civil engineering department, and engage them in senior projects, and supervise their summer training.
QDSBG was founded in 2010 as a joint venture (JV) between Qatari Diar Real Estate Investment Co (QD) and Saudi Bin Laden Group Co (SBG). It combines the local and international knowledge and expertise of QD in developing large-scale real estate projects with the vast experience of SBG, with its strong record of delivering major infrastructure projects worldwide.
In the terms of the agreement, QDSBG will fund the chair position over a three-year term from 2015-2018. Both institutions will also co-operate to provide joint research and consulting activities, and develop tailored training programmes.
Dr al-Derham said the agreement will contribute to fulfilling national needs for high-quality scientific research and training in the field of civil engineering and infrastructure and highlights the College’s ongoing efforts to provide an inspiring learning and teaching environment that promotes a culture of innovation among students, and enables them to excel and succeed.
“It also shows QU’s commitment to graduating highly qualified professionals able to contribute to the fast-changing civil engineering and infrastructure development scene in Qatar, including dissemination of knowledge, deployment of state-of-the-art technology, and application of best practice in civil engineering and infrastructure.”
