The Court of Appeal has upheld the ruling of a lower court against a GCC woman, ordering her to pay QR350,000 as the fees of two lawyers who had helped her win a legal case, local Arabic daily Arrayah has reported.
Besides, the court ordered her to pay a sum of QR10,000 as compensation for the lawyers as well as the litigation fees, the daily noted.
The two lawyers had helped the woman win a commercial dispute valued at QR26.5mn. They had entered into a contract with her to legally represent her in the case for a fee of QR425,000.
The woman gave QR75,000 in advance, promising to pay the remaining sum after the case was resolved. However, when the case was settled in her favour, she refused to pay the due sum, claiming that the advance payment she had made was enough, according to the report.
The two lawyers then moved court, which looked into their plea and ruled in their favour. The woman, however, appealed against the lower court’s ruling, claiming that she was exploited and the fees were too high.
The Court of Appeal dismissed the case and upheld the ruling of the Court of First Instance as the fees were considered reasonable in view of the nature of the case.
