The first ever FIM Women´s Road Racing Training Camp organised outside Europe took place at Losail International Circuit in Qatar with girls from 10 different countries from Europe, Latin America and USA.
All together 21 female riders were enjoying the high class MotoGP circuit of Losail when the FIM Women in Motorcycling Commission together with Bike Promotion and BMW Motorrad organised first Middle East camp this week with the support of Qatar Motor and Motorcycle Federation (QMMF).
During the camp that included three track days, women were able to have two evening sessions with the magnificent lights of 5,4 km long Losail International Circuit and get used to the intensive heat of Qatar during one daytime session.
The instructors included big names such as Nina Prinz from Germany and Shelina Moreda from USA who both compete at the QMMF series and therefore are experts on the circuit. The female duo was joined by other respected racers, such as ex-MotoGP stars Simon Crafar and Jürgen Fuchs and Qatar Superbike Champion and Endurance World Cup winner Alex Cudlin. In addition to track instruction, they also provided classroom sessions about body position and bike handling.
This training programme that started two years ago is now growing to include track, classroom and physical exercises but also mental training that is such a big part of preparation for motorsport in today’s world.
“This has been an amazing opportunity for us to be here on this very special circuit to experience what it is to ride in the night under the amazing Losail lights. Girls are really happy and enjoying every second. I want to thank QMMF and Nasser Khalifa al-Attiyah for all the support and help we have received for our first camp outside Europe, said Nita Korhonen, the director of the FIM Women in Motorcycling Commission.
“We are very happy to host the FIM Women Training here in Qatar with Nita from FIM Women in Motorcycling. I hope they had a good experience and they succeed in their mission how to develop the women skills and women abilities. For sure they are on the right place where we are developing a women category in road racing, so we are very glad to have all them from different nationalities to participate at Losail International Circuit and this gives more value for us.  Thanks also to FIM for this opportunity and hope that this will not be the last, maybe we are planning for more in the future, so thanks to everybody and the women who participate and hope that they have good season to decide how they want to plan their goals to reach,” said Nasser Khalifa al-Attiyah, the FIM Deputy President and President of the QMMF.
