Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan, who has been chosen as the ‘Tiger ambassador’ of Maharashtra to promote eco tourism and tiger conservation, flagged off a bike rally from his home Janak in Juhu yesterday.
“Being an ambassador, its my privilege to flag off the rally,” Bachchan said.
“Lots of people will get information about the cause with this rally. These bikers will ride seven days in different locations and will do publicity and will tell the people how to save the tiger.”
Maharashtra Forest Minister Sudhir Mungantiwar was also present on the occasion.
“The bikers will visit villages located near tiger reserves. They will interact with the people living in the vicinity of these reserves and explain to them the importance of forests and conservation of wild animals,” said Mungantiwar.
At least 20 bikers started their seven-day journey from Janak. Three bikers will join the rally from Nagpur. They will not only travel to four tiger reserves in Maharashtra but will travel 1,000 kilometres to the final destination Tadoba Tiger reserve in Chandrapur.
The rally is aimed at promoting conservation of wild animals and forests.
