Some 9,000 Syrian families have benefited from Qatar Charity ’s relief project held under its campaign “Sanad Ahl Al Sham (support the people of Levant) across a number of governorates in Syria.
The campaign aimed to provide the needy, mainly the displaced, with food. The places covered by the project include Aleppo, Idlib and Hama and their countryside, Homs, Damascus and camps for the displaced.
As part of the relief project, Qatar Charity (QC) distributed food baskets to displaced families, each containing rice, sugar, oil, vermicelli, tea and other basic foodstuff.
Aleppo, Hama, Idlib and Lattakia (along with their countryside) received 7,000 food parcels. Besides, some 2,000 parcels were given away in the Homs and Damascus countryside. A considerable portion was given to orphans’ families and widows, a statement noted.
Through this project, QC aimed to alleviate the sufferings of Syrians in their country. QC focused on orphans and widows as they had lost their breadwinners, according to the statement.
Mohamed al-Sulaiti, the campaign’s superviser, said: “QC is committed to offering its help to its brothers and sisters in Syria. It is an essential part of its message.”
QC also implemented an agricultural project for the benefit of people in the Aleppo and Idlib countryside and Al Sahil in Syria. The project covered 50 hectares for the cultivation of wheat and potato in co-operation with Beyaz Eller (White Hands Organisation) at a cost of QR900,000.
QC has implemented different projects for the Syrian people since the start of the Syrian crisis. The projects cover education, health, food and shelter. Some 67% of the aid has been sent to (places within) Syria at a cost of more than QR213,000,000. The rest has been distributed among Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries.
The total amount of aid was worth QR322,000,000 until the end of September with some 6,083,517 beneficiaries.
