The 15th meeting of the heads of GCC civil retirement and social insurance authorities opened in Doha yesterday.
Addressing the opening ceremony of the meeting, HE the Minister of Administrative Development Dr Issa Saad al-Jafali al-Nuaimi reiterated the importance of the project that targeted redundant workers and retirees, who are of working age, in reducing early retirement phenomenon and retaining support of national expertise in the local labour market.
He outlined Qatar’s efforts to achieve social development in all its dimensions, a matter which enabled it to occupy a prominent position in the ranks of developed countries in record time. He pointed out that Qatar ranked 21 in the 2015 Global Retirement Index rankings by providing a decent life for retirees and their beneficiaries, which is the main objective of the General Retirement and Social Insurance Authority.
The project has a direct impact on the performance of pension funds, and is one of the most important projects of human development strategy, he said, adding that the ministry started implementing it last year.
The strategy focused on carrying out several projects in order to maintain the sustainability of retirement and pension systems, including the localisation of jobs in the public sector by matching the outputs of education with the needs of the market over the next ten years.
