Traffic rose to 6.43mn passengers from 5.94mn a year earlier
Dubai International Airport, the world’s busiest by international traffic, saw passenger traffic grow 8.2% in September, its operator said yesterday.
Traffic rose to 6.43mn passengers from 5.94mn a year earlier, the airport operator said, taking the total so far this year to 58.7mn, up 12.0%.
Growth was driven by services to Eastern Europe and to Oman, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. North America also grew, as Emirates, whose main hub is Dubai, increased capacity and frequency to New York and Seattle.
Gulf countries topped overall passenger traffic, followed by the Indian subcontinent.
Air freight volumes rose 0.3% in the month to 207,315 tonnes. Some cargo operations have moved to Al Maktoum International - Dubai World Central (DWC).
Dubai Airports chief executive Paul Griffiths said the airport, which overtook London’s Heathrow to become the world’s busiest airport in 2014, is set for another year of record growth.
