The success of the International Paralympic Committee’s ongoing Athletics World Championships (Doha 2015) is a result of united efforts by the Qatari people who aim to raise the name of their country on all international platforms, Qatar Olympic Committee (QOC) secretary-general Dr Thani bin Abdulrahman al-Kuwari has said.
Speaking to the official Qatar News Agency, Dr al-Kuwari said the success would not have been achieved without the unlimited support of the country’s wise leadership and the patronage of QOC president HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani.
Dr al-Kuwari, who heads the tournament’s organising committee, expressed delight and pride that the 2015 IPC Athletics World Championships, in its seventh edition, is the biggest ever in terms of participation, the most exciting in terms of media coverage and has witnessed the highest number of records.
He added that staging the event reflects Qatar’s humanitarian role on all fronts, particularly regarding people with disabilities who deserve more care and attention in their societies and integration in development activities, including the sports field.
The QOC secretary-general said preparations for the tournament were properly carried out ahead of schedule and hosting facilities such as training grounds, clinics and wheelchair storage areas were successfully tested.
The organising committee also held several workshops for centres for people with disabilities, where they were briefed in detail about the championship.
Dr al-Kuwari urged fans to come to Suhaim bin Hamad Stadium at Qatar Sports Club to enjoy the competitions, noting that a quarter of the ticket sale revenues goes to charities in Qatar.
He added that the goal of such tournaments is not only a sporting one but also to encourage members of the society to participate in different sporting activities thanks to the positive influence it has on individual health and contribution to the development of society.

Saying goodbye is never easy, especially when you are saying farewell to those that have left a positive impression. That was the case earlier this month when Canada hosted Mexico in a friendly at BC Place stadium in Vancouver.
