The Court of First Instance has ordered a GCC citizen and her husband to pay QR160,472 to a private hospital as fees for a Cesarean section delivery.
The woman has also been ordered to pay the litigation costs.
She had alleged that the operation was not done properly, which caused her some complications and required another surgery and further stay in the hospital. Accordingly, she filed a case against the hospital requesting for a compensation of QR2mn for the damage she suffered.
Earlier, the woman and her husband had agreed with the hospital to have a C-section delivery and stay there for four days.
However, the woman suffered some complications after the delivery, which necessitated her stay for another 17 days. The hospital also decided to conduct another surgery to treat the complications, which raised the fees considerably.
The woman claimed that a medical error by the hospital was responsible for her extended stay.
The court assigned an expert to examine the claims of the woman. After going through the details of the case, the expert ruled that there was no error or negligence on the part of the hospital.
Accordingly, the woman’s plea was rejected and the court ordered her to pay the fees, which included her stay at the hospital with the child.
