Escuela Guayas, a training ship of the Ecuadorean Navy which visited Doha last week, is seen berthed at Doha Port.
Some 100 crew members of Escuela Guayas, a training ship of the Ecuadorean Navy which visited Doha last week, toured Katara – the Cultural Village Foundation.
The sailors were introduced to the main facilities such as the amphitheatre, drama theatre and other venues before they headed to the beach where they attended a performance of Qatari folkloric marine songs.
Escuela Guayas captain Carlos Zomarlqa honoured Katara general manager Dr Khalid bin Ibrahim al-Sulaiti at a reception on board the ship.
“We are really pleased to be honoured by the crew of Escuela Guayas that crystallises the international role of the cultural village in bridging the gaps amongst cultures and strengthening the ties of friendship and tolerance,” Dr al-Sulaiti said.
He noted that Katara has been a melting pot for all cultures. “We are keen to achieve our goals and convey our messages that address the humane as a value and abolish barriers and differences.”
Ecuadorean envoy Kabalan Abi Saab, who was also present at the ceremony, lauded the key role played by the cultural village saying the visit of Escuela Guayas to Katara “indicates the importance of this cultural edifice for disseminating the culture of openness between cultures and people.”
