Members of QC education committee during the recent meeting to discuss private schools issues.
A shareholding Qatari company should be established to handle the education needs of the country and invest in private schools, the Qatar Chamber (QC) Education Committee has recommended.
During a recent meeting headed by QC vice chairman Mohamed Ahmed bin Tuwar, the committee pointed out that the private education market in the country needs such a company that should include local investors and the owners of the private schools in the country.
The project’s team at the committee raised the idea stressing that the demand for private schools is rising in the country and many private foreign schools are now inclined to open branches in Qatar. Accordingly, the establishment of such a company would be highly instrumental for the benefit of the national economy. Besides, it would ensure the compliance of these schools regarding language, culture and ethical issues.
The participating members at the meeting expressed their strong support for the idea and agreed that the government should adopt and support it to further enhance local investment. So, a detailed study is set to be conducted on this idea to be reviewed by the committee at its next meeting.
Meanwhile, the committee has submitted a detailed study about private school fees to the Education Minister and decided to send him a correspondence regarding the need to expedite the process of issuing a law regarding school fees and the education coupons for Qataris.
The committee also further discussed the details of the field study that it would conduct on the challenges and difficulties facing the private education sector in the country. They also reviewed the results of the sample questionnaire sent to a number of private schools.
However, the committee expressed its displeasure about the way the local media handled the issue of 168 private schools failing to get the academic accreditation due to some administrative and routine issues not related to the academic side. The members discussed the difficulties that such schools face to get the accreditation and urged the media to handle the issue more comprehensively and subjectively, talking to school operators and management to report the complete story.
