Qatar University’s College of Medicine (QU-CMED) will organise the fifth annual conference of the Middle Eastern Association for Cancer Research (MEACR) on November 28-29 in Gaziantep, Turkey, in conjunction with the MEACR and the Faculty of Medicine at Gaziantep University.
Themed “Cancer Disease from Basic Science to Clinic”, the conference will bring together clinicians and cancer scientists in the Mena region to network and share their research and experiences on a wide range of topics related to human cancers.
Speakers and presenters at the conference will include researchers from Qatar, Turkey, Pakistan, Iran, Egypt and Morocco. More than 100 participants, including around 50 graduate students from the Mena region, are expected to attend.
The programme agenda will include sessions to address topics such as diagnosis, care, management and prevention of the disease; anti-cancer agents in medicinal chemistry; clinical trials; breast, lung and urologic cancer; nanotechnology; stem cell research; and viral and bacterial infection, among others.
Accepted abstracts will be published in the MEACR’s Clinical Cancer Investigation Journal (CCIJ), a free open-access and peer-reviewed online journal.
Commenting on the conference, QU vice-president for medical education and CMED dean Dr Egon Toft said: “The forum is a great opportunity for our students to meet and network with their peers and with health experts and researchers from other institutions within the region to share their experience and best practices in line with the college’s commitment to provide its students with opportunities that contribute to enhancing their skills and competencies.”
CMED professor, CCIJ editor-in-chief and MEACR manager Dr Ala-Eddin al-Moustafa said, “This conference is a significant opportunity to bring together scientists, researchers and students from the region to share their research and discuss in depth the critical issue of cancer and the need to find efficient solutions for this global disease.”
