University of Calgary in Qatar (UCQ) has launched its first accredited Continuing Professional Development (CPD) presentation.
UCQ is one of the nine institutions authorised by the Supreme Council of Health’s Qatar Council for Healthcare Practitioners to provide CPD to healthcare professionals in Qatar.
Eman Ahmed Tawash, director of the undergraduate nursing programme in the School of Nursing and Midwifery in Bahrain, spoke at UCQ to an audience of healthcare professionals from across Qatar.  
Her topic, “the impact of culture on recruitment of national citizens into the field of nursing”, addressed the challenges of attracting national citizens to the nursing profession in GCC countries.
Tawash’s talk was part of the Distinguished Speaker Series presented by the UCQ Centre for Teaching and Learning (CTL), and the first accredited CPD programme presented at UCQ.
“We are grateful that Ms Tawash presented her very important work with us at UCQ,” said CTL director Dr Mary Gene Saudelli. “Her research is of value to Qatar as nursing is vital to the health and well-being of all residents and this noble profession is essential to the realisation of Qatar National Vision 2030.”
The CPD programme contributes to the quality of care for everyone in Qatar by licensing healthcare professionals and providing ongoing training to professionals in order to continually build skills in line with the National Health Strategy 2011-2016 and Qatar National Vision 2030.
