Ooredoo has announced that its Mobile Money Payroll service has seen a “huge uptake” in the past few months, with thousands of employers now switching to the smart payment method.
The service, which enables employers to pay their staff directly into their mobile phones’ mWallet via Ooredoo Mobile Money (OMM), has gained “significant popularity” in Qatar in just under three months, with a record number of more than 30,000 employees and 2,000 businesses across the country due to be enrolled by the end of November, the company has said in a statement.
The service promises firms a “smarter way” to pay employee salaries, saving businesses on banking processing fees, reducing accounting and administration costs and improving business efficiencies. The Mobile Money Payroll service is also in line with the regulations of Qatar’s Wage Protection System.
Speaking on the uptake, Ooredoo Qatar COO Waleed al-Sayed said: “Ooredoo believes in enhancing customers’ lives with our technology and OMM allows us to do this effectively. Ooredoo Mobile Money has become one of the fastest growing services we offer, and with more and more people looking for smart banking and transfer services, we plan to continue to develop the service to fulfil our growing country’s needs.”
For employees, the system offers “simple and easily understandable access” to financial services such as local and international transfers for users unable to access a local bank account, as well as a “secure and convenient alternative” to carrying cash and access to an OMM payroll account and bank card that can be used at ATMs across Qatar, the statement notes.
The Ooredoo Mobile Money Payroll service, launched in partnership with QNB, is the region’s first payroll service via mobile.
New customers can register for free for Mobile Money by visiting any Ooredoo shop, dialling *140# or downloading the free Ooredoo Money App. Once registered, customers can begin to deposit money into their Mobile Wallet via over 200 Ooredoo’s self-service machines or through any
Ooredoo shop.
