Conference to discuss traffic medicine and road safety

The International Traffic Medicine Association (ITMA) Congress will be held in Doha from November 16 to 18.
The three-day event at Sheraton Hotel would be attended by senior professionals from different areas of traffic as well as health, the organisers said at a meeting held at the Traffic Department headquarters.
Director General of Traffic Brigadier Mohamed Saad al-Kharji, Secretary General of the National Traffic Safety Committee Brigadier (Retd) Mohamed Abdullah al-Malki, head of the Scientific Committee of the Congress Dr Wafa al Yazidi and Director of Traffic Awareness and Media Department Lt Col Mohamed Radhi al-Hajri were among the officials at the meeting.
Al-Malki is also the Chairman of the Organising Committee of the Congress.    
Brigadier al-Kharji said the ITMA Congress was being held in the Middle East for the first time. The theme of the event will be ‘Traffic Medicine and Road Safety in Fast Developing Countries’.
The Congress will provide a multidisciplinary network and forum for scientists and practitioners involved in traffic safety to interact with each other and exchange ideas and information on the latest issues in this field.
Experts from the US, India, Australia, France and other European and Middle East countries will take part in the Congress to present papers and share their experiences and knowledge on traffic safety and safety law enforcement.
The discussions will cover such areas as health (traffic medicine), transport and road safety (road engineering), law enforcement and society and education.
More than 100 papers are expected to be presented.
One of the highlights will be the deliberations on traffic safety, traffic injury prevention and treatment in recent years. The event will bring together traffic medicine experts to share the most advanced traffic medicine concepts, theories and techniques in order to promote traffic crash prevention, traffic safety, first-aid, medical treatment, and accordingly reduce the mortality and disability resulting from traffic injury in the world, to raise the road users’ health standard and quality of life.
The participating delegates include doctors, psychologists, traffic safety experts, car manufacturers, engineers, policy-makers, and police officers.
An exhibition will be held at Aspire Zone on November 13 and 14 to mark the World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims which is observed on November 15.
