The fourth annual Action on Diabetes (AOD) Screening Village at Katara will be open from today to Saturday to mark World Diabetes Day. The visitors will be able to learn about healthy diets and exercise from diabetes educators, in addition to being tested in the custom-built AOD screening bus.
Dr Mohsin Mismar, head of service development at the Primary Health Care Corporation, said: “Action on Diabetes (AOD) plays a valuable role in our collective fight against diabetes in Qatar. We are delighted to once again support the AOD Screening Village at Katara through the provision of health staff and diabetes educators.”
Over the past four years, AOD has screened more than 32,000 people for the condition with the help of partners; engaged with thousands of people through awareness campaigns and offered more than 2,000 training opportunities through seven different courses to further educate doctors, nurses and diabetes educators about the latest techniques in treatment and support.
Herluf Nis Thomsen, AOD programme manager, said, “Without our strategic partners, Action on Diabetes would not have been nearly as successful as it has been over the past year. Through the continued financial commitment of Maersk Oil Qatar, and the provision of talented health staff and diabetes educators by our other strategic partners, we are all helping to fight one of this country’s
biggest health battles.”
Action on Diabetes is a public-private partnership with the Supreme Council of Health, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Healthcare Corporation, Qatar Diabetes Association, Maersk Oil Qatar and Novo Nordisk.
The Action on Diabetes screening bus is fitted with a range of testing equipment to allow analysis of random blood glucose and body mass index. People tested at the bus receive a personalised analysis of results, as well as recommendations on how to reduce the risk of developing diabetes in the future.
