Maersk Oil-Qatar Petroleum Challenge to tackle diabetes

The 4th Maersk Oil & Qatar Petroleum (MOQP) Challenge, to be held on November 14-15, will see around 100 participants from more than 20 teams compete over two days in the country’s corporate team-building event to raise awareness and funds to tackle diabetes in Qatar.
This year’s event takes place at the Sealine Resort and will feature teams representing some of Qatar’s largest and best-known organisations from both the public and private sector.
The 2015 challenge sees the involvement of teams representing organisations from sectors as diverse as energy, health, higher education, advertising and professional services as well as a ministry. Organisations competing include the Supreme Council of Health, Maersk Oil Qatar, Action on Diabetes, Schlumbeger, Oxy, Gulf Drilling International, WorleyParsons, Texas A&M, Tripletwo, Gasal, Dolphin Energy and Al Shaheen Weatherford.
Participants are now in the final stages of preparing for challenges that will test them to the limit over five gruelling stages. These include a series of tasks that focus on strategy and decision-making and test their ability to work as a team, as well as activities designed to stretch their physical and mental agility.
Spread over 48 hours, each of the five inter-related stages is themed around a key lifestyle issue related to diabetes such as healthy eating and avoiding long-term damage to feet and eyes. Teams will be required to solve problems, navigate their way around a specially designed course, run, ride mountain bikes and kayak to succeed.
The MOQP Challenge further promotes the work of Action on Diabetes (AoD), a public-private partnership initiated and funded by Maersk Oil Qatar that aims to help raise awareness of diabetes, assist those at risk to avoid it, and help people already living with the condition to manage their health.
All money raised from the registration fees will be donated to the Qatar Diabetes Association through the AoD partnership. This will be used to fund the 15th Al Bawasil Camp, a seven-day educational camp for diabetic children.
