Qatar Charity (QC) has signed a partnership agreement with the Ras Laffan Community Outreach Programme (COP) to implement the “Fun Science” programme for students in the northern areas.
The programme aims to instil the love of science in students. Under this, science subjects will be taught in innovative ways rather than old-fashioned ones and students will be encouraged to explore the world of science, according to a statement.
Representatives from QC and the Supreme Educational Council (SEC), along with Ras Laffan COP members, attended the signing ceremony.
The programme will be implemented in several independent schools in the northern areas, such as Al Th’ayen, Simaisma, Al Dhakira, Al Ghuwariyah, K’ban and Al Shamal. The QC Community Development Centre, Al Khor branch, will supervise the implementation of the project.
More than 2,000 students will benefit from the programme, the statement notes. It will include 95 workshops where the students will see different scientific experiments performed in “innovative, attractive and exciting” ways. The workshops target around 2,375 participants.
There will also be 25 scientific ceremonies that target around 2,500 participants and 95 presentations for the “educational dome” so as to project 3D scientific movies in the presence of 1,900 participants, the statement adds.
In addition, a study will be conducted on the students’ acquisition of scientific terms and the extent to which they have benefited.
Ali Atiq Alabdallah, director of QC’s Community Development Centre, said: “Such educational programmes have a key role in developing the community, which is why QC considers them as one of its main methods to achieve local development.”
Omar Abdulaziz al-Naama, assistant director of the Office of Independent Schools in the SEC, conveyed his thanks to the Ras Laffan COP for sponsoring the programme, stressing that there was close co-ordination and follow-up between the SEC, COP and QC to develop a programme that provided basic science facts for students by using attractive methods.
