Italy welcome Romania in friendly amid stepped-up safety measures

Italy and Romania play a friendly tomorrow in Bologna as football strives to return to normality after Friday’s terrorist attacks in various parts of Paris.
The Azzurri boss Antonio Conte expressed his worries after learning about the explosions that took place Friday outside the Stade de France during Les Bleus’ friendly with Germany.
“These are very serious events,” Conte said. “It’s worrying, there is no doubt. It is a very scary situation.”
Fans, however, should feel safe at Bologna’s Dall’Ara ground as Italy’s security services have been brought close to the highest available level.
“No country is at zero risk,” Interior Ministry Angiolino Alfano said. “But so far our intelligence has functioned.”
Prime Minister Matteo Renzi said: “We do not underestimate anything. We intensified controls throughout the country.”
Conte’s squad went back to work at their camp outside Florence Saturday, the day after Belgium defeated them 3-1 in Brussels, rallying from an early goal by Antonio Candreva.
The Azzurri played a good first half, but suffered in the second as the leaders of FIFA’s world rankings switched pace to inflict them a defeat that Conte called “too harsh.”
“Now we look at the game with Romania,” the in-form Candreva said.
“We must continue on this path and win Tuesday night’s game.”
Andrea Barzagli and Davide Astori should find room in defence, with Riccardo Montolivo to direct the midfield and Manolo Gabbiadini given a chance to stun Ciprian Tatarusanu from Serie A leaders Fiorentina.
The Romania squad steered by Anghel Iordanescu were unbeaten and conceded only two goals as they qualified as second in their group.  Italy won theirs conceding seven goals.
Romania are 14th in the FIFA rankings, a single point behind Italy, and expect good support at the Dall’Ara as many compatriots live in Bologna and northern Italy.
The Italian football federation (FIGC) said that a minute’s silence will be observed before the game to commemorate the victims of a fire in a nightclub of the Romanian capital Bucharest in late October.
The FIGC has also put on display until Tuesday at Bologna city hall the four World Cups that Italy won between 1934 and 2006.
