Doha
A Doha Criminal Court has sentenced an Arab expatriate woman to six months in jail and imposed a fine of QR20,000 for insulting and abusing a man through WhatsApp.
Local Arabic daily Arrayah reported on Friday that the woman used the mobile phone application through a SIM, given to her by an acquaintance, to send threatening and insulting messages to the victim.
The convict had earlier rented, through a relative, a house belonging to the victim, who later asked her to vacate the premises. She started to take revenge by sending WhatsApp messages abusing and threatening him, with the objective of getting him deported from the country.
Finally, the victim filed a complaint with authorities and submitted his phone with the relevant messages. Investigations pointed to the convict and the phone and SIM used in the crime proved the claim of the complainant, the daily added.
