Hamad Medical Corporation’s (HMC) dental services see more than 120,000 patient visits each year, an official of HMC has said.
“This makes our clinics amongst the busiest in our network,” said Prof Johan De Vries, chair of dentistry at HMC. “It is important for us that we continue to add new services that can make a real difference to the lives of our patients.”
HMC has brought all its dentistry services under one banner - the Hamad Dental Network, which will work to improve patient access to dental services.
The new Hamad Dental Network includes the specialist services offered at Rumailah Hospital as well as those offered at Al Wakra Hospital, Al Khor Hospital and the Cuban Hospital.
“The philosophy behind this is one system, multiple sites. By bringing all the dental services in our hospitals under one banner, the new Hamad Dental Network means we can combine efforts across HMC’s hospitals. This ensures that our patients are able to access specialist services closer to their homes,” said Prof De Vries.
The Hamad Dental Network is the latest step in the implementation of HMC’s new, innovative model of care which will bring more specialist services to our community hospitals.
“This means patients will not have to travel to Doha except if they need highly complex care,” said Prof De Vries.
This model has been successfully tested through HMC’s women’s health services network whereby the most difficult cases are treated at Women’s Hospital while related specialist services are brought to patients in the outlying communities.
“The network will ensure quality and high standards of care for our dental patients across the hospitals in addition to reflecting our strategic direction,” Prof De Vries said, adding: “The core of the network will be to take responsibility for professional leadership encompassing standards of care and quality as well as pathways for patients accessing dental care.”
