More than 300 healthcare professionals, including nurses, physicians and other allied health professionals, attended an educational event organised by the nursing department at Hamad General Hospital (HGH) to highlight best nursing practices for patients undergoing liver transplant surgery.
Amal Kamel Ali, director of nursing, surgical units and lithotripsy, HGH, said, “This is a unique event which serves as a valuable teaching intervention to promote up-to-date, evidence-based nursing practice and high-quality patient care. The event will provide nursing professionals with the latest medical knowledge with an aim of enhancing patient outcomes.”
The event showcased a variety of insightful presentations by nurses and physicians highlighting topics such as the latest management techniques in pre-operative and post-operative care and challenges and recommendations in caring for patients recovering from liver transplant surgery at HGH.
“The main idea behind this event is to recognise nurses who have demonstrated excellence in nursing care and allow them to share their expertise with other healthcare professionals. The sharing of experiences, coupled with the latest evidence-based research findings, will positively affect delivery of care to our patients,” Ali
pointed out.
Ali added: “Surgical nurses work in a very challenging environment, where they often take key roles in life-saving surgical procedures. They are responsible for educating patients on the procedures, provide for medication and play an important role in their treatment journey.
“We, therefore, consider it of utmost importance to highlight their role at a gathering like this where they can participate in open discussions with cross-unit and cross-division healthcare professionals to learn effective ways and identify the best strategies to improve the patient’s experience.”
